A 17-year-old Bangladeshi girl has been rescued by Indian police in Gujrat's Surat on Saturday.

Workign on a tip-off, the police busted an alleged human trafficking racket and rescued the girl who was brought for prostitution, reports Times Now.

According to the police, those arrested have been identified as Mijanur alias Shariful Shailk (36), his wife Ajmira Khatun (32) and agent Murtuza Shaikh (31) – all nationals of Bangladesh. Inquiries revealed that Mijanur and his wife had illegally crossed over to India from Bangladesh and were residing in Surat district's Kholwad village. As they did not have any source of income, they decided to get a girl from their home country and push her into flesh trade to make money.

The couple approached a Murtuza, an Ankleshwar resident, to get the girl from Bangladesh to India for the purpose of prostitution. "He (Murtuza) travelled to villages in Bangladesh and brought the girls here for Rs 15,000. Murtuza used to pay Rs 4,000 to an agent who arranged for his entrance in the India border along with the girls," a report by The Times of India quoted a police officer as saying.

On Saturday, Special Operation Team sleuths, after receiving a tip-off, busted the racket by arresting Mijanur, Ajmira and Murtuza from Kamrej town and rescued the 17-year-old Bangladeshi girl who was brought in the city to be forced into prostitution. The teenager was sent to a children's home, The Indian Express reported.

Surat Police commissioner Ajay Tomar said investigations are underway to find out if the same group had forced more girls into flesh trade.
