Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested Rezaul Haque, the Acting Amir of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), from Badda in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.

The Acting Amir, 37, also goes by a number of names like Reza, Tanveer Mahmud, Shihab, and Ahnaf, reads a media statement.

Acting on a tip-off, CTTC members led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Rahmat Ullah conducted the drive in the area around 5:50 pm and arrested him, as per the directive of M Elias Sharif, DMP Joint Commissioner of Police.

In preliminary interrogation, Rezaul Haque said he is also the chief of the Da'wah and Baitulmal department. He is aggressively conducting JMB activities across the country as per the directives of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Amir, Salahuddin Salehin.

Earlier in 2005, he was arrested for involvement in a series of bomb attacks in the country and rejoined the party after securing bail in 2017. There are three cases against him in different police stations of the city.
