Three youths were killed and four others injured after a heated argument over eve-teasing sparked a violent confrontation between two groups in Munshiganj's Sadar upazila last night.

The deceased were identified as- Awlad Hossain Mintu (48), Emon Hossain (22), son of Kashem Pathan of North Islampur area and Sakib Hossain (19), son of Bachchu Mia of North Islampur area under the upazila.

Local people and police said, a clash erupted between local teenagers Sourav and Emon following a village arbitration on eve-teasing, which was proved to be a false allegation. The fighting later escalated into a bloody confrontation as people, divided into two groups, joined with locally-made sharp weapons.

Emon died on the spot and Sakib passed away on way to Dhaka. Later, Awlad Hossain died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH)

Confirming the matter, Munshiganj Sadar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abubakkar Siddique said, "Police rushed to the spot as soon as the news came in and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area."

"Of the three people brought to the hospital at 11.30 pm, one was already dead and the rest of them were critically injured," said Dr Ferdous  Munshiganj, duty doctor at the emergency department of Munshiganj General Hospital.
