The court has directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe a case filed by cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore under the Torture and Death in Custody (Prevention) Act, against unidentified members of the law enforcement agencies, in connection with his torture after being arrested under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh passed the order on Sunday where the court asked the director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital to form a three-member committee to examine the injuries inflicted to Kishore's ears, legs and other parts of his body.

The committee has been asked to have one specialist in ear-nose-throat, orthopaedics and medicine to conduct the necessary examinations within the next three working days, mentioning the time interval between the allegations of torture made by Kishore, if possible, confirmed Additional Public Prosecutor of the court concerned Tapash Kumar Pal.

Kishore filed a case against unidentified members of the law enforcement agencies on Wednesday (10 March) in connection with the torture after he was arrested in a case under the DSA.

"I was tortured after I was detained. I have appealed to the court to file a case against the perpetrators in this regard," said Kishore.

In May last year, RAB arrested: writer Mushtaq Ahmed, cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore, Didarul Bhuiyan, a member of RashtraChinta, and Minhaj Mannan, director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange.

A case was filed against 11 people under the DSA for using social media to spread rumours against the state. Although two people were released on bail in that case, the bail applications of Mushtaq and Kishore were rejected six times.
