Fire breaks out at Opsonin Pharma depot in Pabna

Fire broke out at a depot of Opsonin Pharma in Shalgaria area of the district, causing damages of approximately Tk6 crore.

The depot was stored with goods of Opsonin Pharma, Opso Saline and Opsonin Agro, which used to supply medical drugs in Pabna, Natore, Sirajganj and Bogura, said the depot in  charge Sayed Abu Wahid.

The fire originated at the depot around 4pm on Tuesday. Five units of fire service brought the fire under control after an 1-hour assiduous effort, Paban Fire Service Assistant Director Md Dulal Miah told The Business Standard.

The depot in charge Sayed Abu Wahid said the fire broke out all of a sudden in the afternoon and they tried to douse the flame with fire extinguishers on their own and informed the fire service office and police as well.

"Primarily we are estimating a damag of Tk6 crore," he added.

Dulal Miah said they rushed to the spot immediately after being informed and doused the fire altogether with five units from Pabna and Atgharia.

There might be some flammable material inside, said Dulal, adding that the cause of the fire was being investigated.

Pabna Sadar Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Nasim Ahmmed said he along with a police force appeared in the scene upon information and drove away the people thronged there.

They have initially come to know that the depot had welding inside that may cause the fire to originate.
