Students place 4-point demand, Kishor Alo condoles the death

Case filed over Abrar's death

An unnatural death case has been filed with Mohammadpur Police Station over the electrocution of Nayeemul Abrar Rahat, police said. Meantime, peers of Abrar placed a 4-point charter demanding a fair probe.

Abrar, 15, a non-resident ninth-grader of the Dhaka Residential Model School and College, received an electric shock from a power generator set up behind a stage on the school ground on Friday afternoon.

The event was arranged to celebrate "Ki Ananda," a function of the daily Prothom Alo's magazine for juveniles Kishor Alo.

Abrar's classmates opened a Facebook event on Saturday subsequently seeking fair probe into the matter. They also staged a demonstration in front of the educational institution on Saturday morning.

Meantime, the Kishor Alo magazine condoled the death of the ninth-grader.

Students of the Dhaka Residential Model School and College demand the hospital authorities and doctors "address" and apologise "for their failure" to save the student. Also, the Kishor Alo will have to answer why Abrar was not taken to the Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital soon after the accident.

The students also demanded an official statement from the juvenile magazine "addressing its negligence for the death." At the demonstration, they expressed scepticism about the transparency of the Dhaka Residential Model School and College.

Kishor Alo's explanation

The magazine says: "We are deeply saddened by the untimely death of Nayeemul Abrar. Kishor Alo works for safe and nice adolescence, and strive for raising them as illuminated human beings. It is shocking for us that the juvenile embraced a tragic death while joining our programme."

Kishor Alo added: "Some misleading and false comments have surfaced on social media. We continued the event even after receiving the news of his death, such a claim is not true."

The magazine claimed Abrar was rushed to the temporary medical camp on the school playground as he received the electric shock.

"He was then immediately shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Universal Hospital. The news arrived after the programme concluded. Kishor Alo did not continue the event hushing up the death," added the magazine authorities.
