The Ministry of Education is all prepared to publish the results of last year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations on Sunday.

The ministry is now waiting for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's nod in this regard, as she will announce the results through videoconferencing.

Professor SM Amirul Islam, controller of Dhaka Education Board, told The Business Standard that the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has already completed all the procedures to publish the results.

"We are ready to publish the results any time. Actually, it depends fully on the decision of the prime minister" he said.

An official of the ministry told TBS that the ministry has sent a proposal to the prime minister for her consent, regarding the date of the announcement of the results.

"The ministry has completed all the preparations to publish the results. If the prime minister fixes Sunday for publishing the results, we are ready," he said.

Meanwhile, all the 13 lakh candidates for last year's HSC and its equivalent examinations are waiting with much eagerness to get their long-awaited results. Public and private universities also are waiting for the results to start their admission process for honour's courses under the 2020-21 academic session.

Professor Dr Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, vice-chancellor of United International University, told TBS that they expect that the results will be published soon. They are facing many problems due to the delays in the announcement of the HSC results amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

"We will be able to come out of the financial crisis, if we can admit new students as early as possible," he said.

The HSC and its equivalent examinations were scheduled to be held from 1 April last year at over 9,000 educational institutions under 10 education boards – eight general, one madrassa and one technical education board.

The government chose not to hold the examinations due to the pandemic. Instead, it decided to publish results based on students' Junior School Certificate (JSC) and SSC exam performances.

However, it was not possible to announce the results without amending the education boards' laws. Then a gazette of three amended bills passed in National Parliament was issued on Monday (25 January this year) to publish the results of HSC and equivalent examinations without holding the examinations.

Earlier, President Abdul Hamid assented to the bills passed in the Parliament on 24 January. After the President's consent, the bills became laws.

The bills are – "Intermediate and Secondary Education (Amendment) Bill, 2021", "Bangladesh Technical Education Board (Amendment) Bill, 2021" and "Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board (Amendment) Bill, 2021".

On 19 January, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education Ministry okayed the three bills after review.

These amendments for publication of the results were needed since the HSC and its equivalent examinations could not be held last year due to the Covid-19 situation.

How to get results?

The results will be published through online and will not be sent to colleges.

Students will have to complete registration following the process "HSC<>Board name (First 3 letter) <> Roll<>2020 and send to < l6222".

The results will also be available on www.educationboardresults.gov.bd.
