Bangladesh urges for speedy Covid vaccination under Covax facility in developing countries

Bangladesh has urged to United Nations for accelerating coronavirus vaccination in developing countries especially low- and middle-income countries under COVAX facility.
Md Mostafizur Rahman, permanent representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in Geneva, came up with the urged to COVAX Facility - Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, CEPI, UNICEF along with World Health Organization (WHO) for playing a visible and effective role in expediting coronavirus vaccination.
He came up with the call at the 148th meeting of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization, said a press release on Wednesday.

"The ongoing pandemic has exposed the limitations of the global health system," the ambassador said.
He emphasised the need for a strong international partnership to strengthen the health systems of low- and middle-income countries in the aftermath of the Covid-19 and the pandemic.
Ambassador Rahman expressed his gratitude to the World Health Organization, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for nominating the Prime Minister of Bangladesh as the Co-Chair of the One Health Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
At this time, the Director General of the Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus specially thanked to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her leadership as the co-chair of the WHO Group of Directors.
In addition, Dr. Tedros sent a letter praising the timely and correct decision of the Prime Minister to address the Corona crisis and reiterated his commitment to work closely with the Government of Bangladesh to address any public health challenges.
At this year's executive board meeting, 50 issues related to health were discussed in detail.
During this time 5 resolutions and 13 decisions were taken unanimously. Bangladesh co-sponsors two resolutions on mental health and oral health.
In addition, Bangladesh issued a joint statement on the resolution on mental health for member countries of the Southeast Asia region.
It may be mentioned that the 148th meeting of the Executive Board was held on 18-26 January 2021 at the headquarters of the World Health Organization in Geneva.
As an elected member of this virtual meeting, Bangladesh actively participated under the leadership of Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque and played a significant role in almost all the discussions.
