Two days after former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon said incumbent mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has lost eligibility to hold the post, Taposh has decided to file a defamation case against Khokon.

Mayor Taposh came up with the remark while inspecting the waste removal activities of the capital's Kamalapur TT Para Box Culvert area on Monday.

Fazle Noor Taposh said, "The former mayor held a meeting on Saturday where he made the allegations against me out of personal resentment. He has defamed me."

Taposh has lost his eligibility to remain mayor: Sayeed Khokon

Replying to the query whether he will file a case against Sayeed Khokon, Mayor Taposh said, "His statement and the allegations against me are defamatory. I will definitely take legal action against him."

While inspecting the waste removal drive, Mayor Taposh said, "Waste will be removed from this culvert that has not been removed before. The Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has neglected their responsibilities."

Earlier on Saturday, Sayeed Khokon alleged, "Taposh has transferred hundreds of crores of taka from the South City Corporation to his own Modhumoti Bank, and is receiving crores of taka in profit by investing hundreds of crores of taka in various individuals and institutions."

"On the other hand, due to a lack of money, the poor employees of the city corporation have not been getting their salaries for months. Many development projects have been halted due to a lack of funds," he claimed.
