Nahid accuses BNP of acting like Awami League, warns of mass uprising
Nahid said that if the BNP “betrays the blood” of martyrs and colludes with the Awami League and India against reforms and stands in favour of the corrupt, then the NCP will have no option but to return to the streets.
If the BNP continues to act in the manner of the Awami League, the National Citizen Party will also return to the path of mass uprising, said NCP Convener and Dhaka-11 Member of Parliament Nahid Islam, alleging the BNP proved its intent by filing a defamation case against NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary.
He made the remarks today (8 March) while addressing a pre-iftar rally organised by the NCP at a school field in Barishal city.
Nahid said that if the BNP "betrays the blood" of martyrs and colludes with the Awami League and India against reforms and stands in favour of the corrupt, then the NCP will have no option but to return to the streets.
He also alleged that the NCP and candidates of the 11-party alliance were defeated through rigging in the national election.
"I urge the youth to prepare for the local government elections. The rigging that happened in the national election will not be allowed in the local government polls," he said.
The NCP chief further claimed that the BNP broke its promises to the people on the very day of taking oath.
He warned that if a reform council is not formed in the upcoming parliament session on 12 March, they will again have to take to the streets to protect people's rights.
At the same rally, Nasiruddin Patwary criticised the BNP, claiming the party was leading Bangladesh towards Indian dominance.
