Young man loses hand in bomb blast in Satkhira

A young man lost one hand in a bomb blast at Rakhaltala field of Godaghata village in Shibpur union under Satkhira on Wednesday.

The person – identified as Younus Ali Chhoton, son of Yaqub Ali Ghazi of the village – was picking dried date palm leaves in the area at that time.

Local people said Younus went to the field with his brother and father at noon for some agricultural work.

They were picking dried date palm leaves on their way back. At that time, Younus saw a box wrapped in a polythene bag inside leaves and tried to open it.

The box exploded immediately and his left hand got severed from the wrist. His relatives admitted him to a private hospital in Satkhira in critical condition.

Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Police Station, said police officials visited the spot after hearing the matter. An inquiry has been launched into the matter, he added.
