'Mayar Jonjal' to stream on Chorki from 24 September
Bangladesh-India co-production Mayar Jonjal, which marked Aupee Karim's return to the big screen after nearly two decades, will begin streaming on Chorki from 24 September.
Directed by Indranil Roychowdhury, the film stars Karim alongside Kolkata actor Ritwick Chakraborty, with Shohel Mondol, Paran Bandopadhyay, Bratya Basu and Chandrayee Ghosh in supporting roles.
Based on Manik Bandopadhyay's short stories Bishakto Prem and Subala, the film follows Soma and Chandan, two people struggling with poverty, unemployment and strained relationships in an unforgiving urban setting.

Karim plays Soma, while Chakraborty portrays her husband Chandan. The film explores the social, economic and psychological struggles of people navigating difficult circumstances and the choices they make to survive.
Mayar Jonjal premiered at the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2020, where it was nominated for the Asian New Talent Award. It was later selected for the Moscow International Film Festival and received awards at the 21st Asiatica Film Festival in Italy and the ArtHouse Asia Film Festival in Kolkata. In 2022, it won Best Screenplay in the Asian Film Competition at the Dhaka International Film Festival.
The film went on to win seven Filmfare Awards Bangla in 2024.
Produced by Josim Ahmed, Mayar Jonjal was released in cinemas in Bangladesh and India on 24 February 2023. It will be available on Chorki from midnight on 24 September.
