BNP leader threatens to detain former MP Selim Osman if police fail to act
Selim Osman allegedly attending meetings at his factory in Narayanganj, claims BNP leader
BNP's Narayanganj metropolitan unit Member Secretary Yusuf Khan Tipu has expressed dissatisfaction with law enforcement agencies and declared that BNP leaders and activists would bring former Narayanganj-5 MP Selim Osman into custody themselves if police fail to arrest him.
He made the remarks at a discussion meeting and prayer programme organised this afternoon (3 June) at Barafkal field in Narayanganj city to mark the death anniversary of former president Ziaur Rahman.
During his speech, Tipu alleged that members of the Osman family remain politically active in the area.
"Godfather Osman family is still trying to make a comeback. Selim Osman still comes to Wisdom [factory owned by Osman] and holds meetings there. I want to tell the police administration that even on Eid-ul-Adha, Selim Osman came to Wisdom and attended an Eid reunion programme. What are you doing?" he said.
"If you do not arrest Selim Osman in the coming days, BNP leaders and activists will detain him and bring him in ourselves. We will not allow attempts to create instability in Narayanganj," he added.
According to local sources, Wisdom, a business establishment owned by Selim Osman, is located in Fatullah, Narayanganj.
Following the political changeover on 5 August 2024, residences belonging to members of the Osman family were reportedly attacked and set on fire, although the business establishment remained intact.
BNP leaders and activists have repeatedly alleged that while Shamim Osman left the country after the fall of the government, Selim Osman remained in Bangladesh.
They have also alleged on several occasions that he regularly visits his factory, conducts office activities and holds meetings with political associates there.
No immediate response from Selim Osman regarding the allegations was available.
