Selina Hayat Ivy released from Kashimpur jail
Her release follows a series of court rulings that upheld bail in multiple cases linked to the July uprising, removing the last legal hurdle to her walkout from prison.
Former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy was released from Kashimpur Central Women's Prison tonight (3 June) after securing bail in all 12 cases filed against her in connection with incidents linked to the July Uprising.
According to a Department of Prisons press release, Ivy was released at around 10:08pm after prison authorities completed verification of all court documents and confirmed that there were no outstanding detention orders against her.
The release was carried out after all legal formalities were completed.
Ivy, 55, inmate No. 1024/25, received bail orders in all 12 cases through directives issued by the High Court and the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court of Narayanganj on 3 June.
Kashimpur Central Women's Prison Superintendent Shirina Akter confirmed the matter.
Her release follows a series of court rulings over recent months that gradually cleared the legal obstacles to her freedom. On 10 May, the Supreme Court upheld High Court bail orders in two murder cases linked to the July Uprising.
Earlier, Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Rezaul Haque passed a "no order" on two state petitions seeking a stay on High Court bail orders issued on 30 April. The Appellate Division had also previously upheld High Court bail orders in 10 other cases filed against Ivy.
With bail secured in all 12 cases and no further detention orders in place, she became eligible for release from prison and was subsequently freed from Kashimpur jail.
Meanwhile, in 9 November last year, a High Court bench comprising Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Md Sagir Hossain granted her bail in five separate cases, including three murder cases and two attempted murder cases, after making the rules absolute. The state later sought a stay on that order from the chamber judge of the Appellate Division, which temporarily stayed the bail.
Subsequently, on 18 November, Ivy was shown arrested in five more cases. On 26 February 2026, another High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher granted her bail in those cases as well.
Among the cases were those over the murders of bus driver Abul Hossain Miji, Abdur Rahman, Md Yasin and Parvez, all filed at Fatullah Police Station. Another case filed at Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station accuses her of assault and obstructing government duties.
The state again challenged the High Court orders in the Appellate Division. On 5 March, the chamber court stayed the bail orders and sent the matter to the regular bench for hearing.
Ivy has also been shown arrested in two additional cases. The High Court granted her bail in those cases on 30 April, but the state has appealed those bail orders as well.
According to prison sources, the final set of bail documents and release orders were received at the jail and verified before approval. Officials said there was a brief delay in her release due to the time required for document verification and clearance from higher authorities.
After confirmation of bail in all cases, there was no remaining legal barrier to her release.
Ivy was arrested around 3am on 9 May last year at her residence Chunka Kutir in Deobhog, Narayanganj. She was later shown arrested in multiple cases over different periods.
Following her release, she left the jail in a private vehicle and headed towards Narayanganj.
