Govt launched major transformation programme in agricultural sector: Minister
He said agricultural production, preservation, and marketing systems are being restructured through modern technology and data-driven mechanisms.
Agriculture Minister Amin-ur Rashid Yasin has said the government has initiated a transformation programme in the agricultural sector with the aim of ensuring that farmers' produce are marketed properly, priced fairly and they are involved in the export process.
Responding to a question tabled by Narsingdi-5 MP Md Ashraf Uddin during a session of the Jatiya Sangsad today (29 April), he said agricultural production, preservation, and marketing systems are being restructured through modern technology and data-driven mechanisms.
The minister said an online platform will be used to ensure door-to-door delivery of farmers' products, enabling goods to reach consumers directly and reducing dependence on middlemen.
He added that on Pahela Baishakh, the prime minister inaugurated a pre-pilot programme for distributing Farmers Card in 11 upazilas across the country, including Tangail Sadar. Through these cards, farmers will receive 10 types of services, including the opportunity to sell their produce at fair prices, market connectivity, and various support services.
Regarding export expansion, the minister said that contract farming is being encouraged to involve farmers directly in the agricultural export process. There are also plans to establish agricultural-based export zones in the northern parts of the country.
He added that under the partner project, modern one-stop hubs will be built, providing agricultural inputs, consultancy services, collection points, trading facilities, and washing facilities, which will add a new dimension to agricultural marketing.
He noted that an initiative has been taken to create an online platform named "Smart Krishi Market" to strengthen digital connectivity. This will enable direct communication among farmers, wholesalers, retailers, entrepreneurs and consumers.
He stated that the Department of Agricultural Marketing has already formulated a roadmap to increase crop-based exports. Once implemented, significant progress will be made in expanding the international market for the country's agricultural products.
He expressed hope that these coordinated initiatives would make the country's agriculture sector more modern, profitable and sustainable.
