'I am also a farmer, I would understand the pain if my paddy rotted in water', says agri minister
Aminur noted that around 75% of the country’s population is involved in agriculture
Agriculture Minister Aminur Rashid has said the current government's core policy is to make farmers economically self-reliant.
Speaking to reporters while visiting flood-affected farmers in Medir Haor of Nasirnagar this afternoon (9 May), he said, "I am also a farmer. If my paddy rotted in water like this, I would understand that pain too."
Aminur noted that around 75% of the country's population is involved in agriculture.
He said the government would purchase paddy once it is properly dried and reaches a suitable condition.
"The government does not accept paddy with moisture levels above 12%," he added.
The minister also said initiatives would be taken to directly procure paddy from farmers by making announcements through loudspeakers at district and union levels, while also allowing farmers time to dry their crops.
