DU hosts second edition of TFP creative excellence awards 2025
The second edition of the intra-department audiovisual competition of the Department of Television, Film and Photography at the University of Dhaka—the 2nd TFP Creative Excellence Awards 2025—was held on 3 February 2026, marking the department's 14th founding anniversary.
This year's competition received 129 submissions, from which 41 works were nominated across 19 categories. A total of 26 films were screened during the day-long event, followed by an award-giving ceremony.
The nominated films were screened from 11:00am at the Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of the Social Sciences Building at the University of Dhaka. The awards ceremony began at 4:00pm.
Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Dhaka, attended the programme as the chief guest, while Professor Dr Taiabur Rahman, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Dhaka, was present as the special guest. Both guests praised the initiative and emphasised the importance of such platforms in nurturing emerging audiovisual practitioners.
Awards were presented by a distinguished jury board comprising professionals from the television and film industry. The jury members included filmmaker Rezwan Shahriar Sumit; Shankha Dasgupta; director and producer Arifur Rahman; cinematographer Barkat Hossain Polash; film critic and screenwriter Sadia Khalid Reeti; art director Ranjan Rabbani; sound designer Nahid Masud; director and editor Saleh Sobhan Auneem; costume designer Edila Farid Turin; documentary filmmaker Elizabeth D Costa; photographers Nasir Mahmud, Shafiqul Alam, and Shafiqul Alam Kiron; and journalists Zayadul Ahsan Pintu and Mir Masruruzzaman.
With active participation from students, faculty members and industry professionals, the event concluded on a celebratory note, reaffirming the department's commitment to fostering creative excellence in audiovisual education and practice.
