Midland Bank receives mastercard membership licence
Midland Bank PLC has received a Mastercard-affiliated membership licence, enabling the bank to issue Mastercard credit, debit and prepaid cards.
The licence was formally handed over to Md Ahsan-uz-Zaman, managing director and chief executive officer, Midland Bank PLC, by Syed Mohammad Kamal, country manager, Mastercard Bangladesh, at a ceremony held at the bank's head office in Dhaka on 1 February 2026.
With this partnership, Midland Bank becomes a Mastercard-affiliated member, allowing its customers to access seamless ATM, POS and e-commerce transactions worldwide. The affiliation also enables digital wallet integration, cross-border payments and access to a range of Mastercard digital services aimed at delivering faster and more secure banking experiences.
Among others present at the ceremony were Md Zahid Hossain, deputy managing director and chief risk officer; Md Nazmul Huda Sarkar, deputy managing director, head of IT and chief technology officer; Mohd Javed Tarek Khan, senior executive vice-president and head of the institutional banking division; and Md Rashed Akter, head of retail distribution and chief bancassurance officer, Midland Bank PLC. Sohail Alim, director, Mastercard, was also present.
