NCP says no single party will dominate government if alliance wins
“We are participating in the election as part of an alliance, But if this alliance forms the government, no specific party’s ideology will dominate or guide the government,” Nahid says.
Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), said that although the party is contesting the election as part of an 11-party alliance, no single party's ideology or principles will exclusively dominate the government formation process.
He made the remarks today (30 January) while unveiling the party's 36-point manifesto at a function held at the Lakeshore Grand Hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka.
"We are participating in the election as part of an alliance," Nahid said. "But if this alliance forms the government, no specific party's ideology will dominate or guide the government."
Nahid added that the alliance will instead work together on shared political agendas, including reform, justice, anti-corruption and opposition to authoritarian rule.
He also noted that the NCP, as a member of the alliance, will try to implement its own priorities from within the government. For this reason, the party has announced its own separate manifesto, he added.
The manifesto launch was attended by leaders from various political parties, civil society members and foreign guests. Among those present were Maolana Abdul Halim, assistant secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami; Mahdi Amin, adviser to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman; Mahfuz Anam, editor of The Daily Star; and poet-thinker Farhad Mazhar.
