A Dhaka court has issued an ad interim (temporary) injunction on the activities of the new committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student body of the BNP.

Nusrat Jahan Bithi, judge of the fourth assistant judge's court of Dhaka, passed the order on Monday.

The court also asked Fazlur Rahman Khokon and Iqbal Hossain Shamol, the new president and general secretary of JCD, to appear before court within seven working days to show cause on why the council should not be declared illegal.

JCD held a council meeting on September 19 to elect its president and general secretary after 27 years, despite a court injunction against it.

Aman Ullah Aman, a former assistant religious affairs secretary of JCD, filed a case on September 12 this year, seeking a permanent injunction on the formation of the council.

After hearing the case, the court issued a suspension order on the sixth council meeting of the JCD, and also served a show-cause notice on ten BNP leaders including its General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

The JCD's last committee was formed on October 14, 2014 with Rajib Ahsan as its president and Akramul Hasan as general secretary.

The committee was dissolved on June 3 this year.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of the BNP and M Ilias Ali, a former BNP lawmaker, were elected president and general secretary of JCD through direct voting in 1992.
