No room for haste in justice, govt committed to bring Hadi’s killers to book: Foreign adviser
Touhid says govt trying to bring back to the country those involved in Hadi's killing
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain today (3 January) said there is no scope for rushing the judicial process, but the government remains determined to ensure justice for the murder of Inqilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman Hadi by bringing all those involved to book.
"We are trying to bring back [to the country] those involved in Hadi's killing. However, we cannot yet say with 100% certainty where the accused are.
"We have indications that they may have crossed the border. If a specific location could be identified, we could clearly say whether they are in India," he told reporters after a meeting at the district deputy commissioner's office in Munshiganj.
Touhid said the government is making every effort to bring those responsible for Hadi's killing under the purview of justice and that work is continuing to complete the trial process swiftly, while maintaining due legal procedure.
Earlier in the day, the adviser attended a series of programmes in Munshiganj marking the 2024 July Uprising and commemorating its martyrs. He also visited the graves of three July martyrs and enquired about the well-being of their families.
Hadi, who was a prospective candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming national polls, was shot in the head on 12 December while travelling in a rickshaw in Dhaka's Purana Paltan area.
He was later airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on the night of 18 December.
On 20 December, he was laid to rest beside the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at Dhaka University.
Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Mancha, filed an attempted murder case at Paltan Police Station on 14 December. After Hadi's death, the case was converted into a murder case.
So far, 10 people have been arrested in connection with the case. However, the two prime accused, who carried out the assassination, have fled to India.
The interim government and Bangladesh Police have said that they are working with Indian authorities for the capture and extradition of the two accused, identified as Faisal Karim Masud and Md Alamgir Sheikh.
