Closed sugar mills can be revived with new investors: Adilur
“We want to bring in investors, and progress has already been made,” he said.
Bringing in investors is essential to reopening shutdown sugar mills in the country and making them profitable again, Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan said today (5 December).
"The fallen fascist government had shut down several sugar mills, and the current administration took the initiative to reopen them. It is not possible to run these mills with subsidies alone or by repeatedly injecting government funds," he said while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 2025-26 sugarcane crushing season at Carew & Company Limited in Chuadanga's Darshana.
"We want to bring in investors, and progress has already been made. If we can attract investors, the mills can be reopened and made profitable," he added.
Adilur further said that after 15 years of "mismanagement under the previous government", returning the country to a normal state will take some time. Various initiatives are underway to establish new industrial enterprises, he noted.
"Work is ongoing to set up industries through both local and foreign entrepreneurs. We may not be here, but you will see the results," he said.
