TCB to continue selling locally produced sugar: Adviser Adilur
Also said that discussions are underway with potential investors and expressed hope that positive progress will be visible soon
Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan today (6 December) said that the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has begun selling locally produced sugar, and the initiative will continue.
Sugar imports have been temporarily halted to allow the domestic sugar mills to clear their stock, he told reporters after inspecting the progress of renovation work at Uttara Gonobhaban in Natore, according to a press release sent by the ministry.
Sugar mills cannot stay afloat through government subsidies alone, observed the adviser, adding that the industry needs both local and foreign investment to expand the domestic production capacity.
He added that discussions are underway with potential investors and hoped that a positive outcome will be visible soon.
