Patients suffer as medical technicians, pharmacists and nurses strike for 10th grade pay in Munshiganj
Nurses and ward boys of the hospital also started their separate programme, a "symbolic shutdown", after the medical technicians and pharmacists left
Hundreds of patients are facing distress at the 250-bed Munshiganj General Hospital as medical technicians and pharmacists observed a two-hour work stoppage today (30 November), demanding the implementation of a 10th-grade pay scale.
The strike, which commenced at 9am and ran till 11am, left vital departments like radiology and pathology unserved, causing long queues for those seeking medical attention.
The protesters stated that they have been demanding the 10th-grade pay scale for 31 years, yet successive governments have failed to address their calls.
This prolonged inaction, they say, has forced them to resort to this work stoppage.
Protesting members of the "Medical Technologist and Pharmacists 10th Grade Implementation Council," warned of more severe actions if their demands are not met.
They announced that if today's two-hour strike proves insufficient, they will launch a continuous programme of strikes and a complete shutdown from 3 December.
Furthermore, nurses and ward boys of the hospital started their separate programme after the medical technicians and pharmacists left.
They came out onto the hospital premises and proceeded with a "symbolic shutdown".
Meanwhile, a visit to the hospital revealed long lines of patients waiting in various departments, including radiology and pathology.
Many expressed their frustration and distress at not receiving essential services, urging the authorities to take immediate and appropriate action to resolve the situation.
