EC publishes NCP's 'Shapla Koli' symbol on website
The NCP’s symbol will be printed on the ballot exactly as per the EC-approved sketch
The Election Commission (EC) has finalised the sketch for the National Citizen Party's (NCP) official symbol, the "Shapla Koli (waterlily bud)," and published it on their website.
The NCP's symbol will be printed on the ballot exactly as per the EC-approved sketch.
The Election Commission's website displays the symbols of registered political parties alongside their names. After the recent registration of the NCP and the Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist), the symbol slots for both parties had remained vacant for some time.
Today (26 November), the EC uploaded the sketch of the "Shapla Koli" symbol next to the NCP's name.
However, as of 8pm, the sketch of the "Scissors" symbol, assigned to the Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist), had not yet been added.
Earlier, the National Citizen Party (NCP) had applied for the Shapla (Water Lily) symbol as their party emblem and held several meetings with the commission regarding the issue.
However, despite repeated requests, the EC had earlier decided not to allocate the Shapla symbol to any political party, saying that it was not listed in the Election Conduct Rules and therefore could not be assigned.
On 21 October, the EC decided to reconsider its earlier decision regarding the 'Shapla' symbol claimed by the NCP.
Later on 30 October, the commission added the new electoral symbol, "Shapla Koli", to its official list of symbols through an amendment to the Election Conduct Rules, 2008.
