Medical experts discuss copd care at Sikder Women’s Medical College seminar
A scientific seminar on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) management was organised on Tuesday, 18 November, at the Nucleus Auditorium of Zainul Haque Sikder Women's Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka to mark World COPD Day 2025.
The keynote paper was presented by renowned chest disease specialist Professor Dr Rashedul Hasan. Professor Dr Md Rasel Kabir, Principal of Zainul Haque Sikder Women's Medical College and Hospital, attended as chief guest. Special guests included Professor Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, Director of the college, and Dr Md Mahfuzul Islam, Managing Director of Alliance Hospital Ltd.
In his keynote, Professor Dr Rashedul Hasan discussed the causes, symptoms, and treatment protocols for COPD, stressing that alongside asthma management, regular post-treatment exercise is essential for prevention. He noted that COPD patients suffering from sleep disorders or heart-related complications require timely and specialised medical attention. Speakers at the seminar elaborated on various clinical aspects of COPD care.
Professor Hasan added: "We have established Ingenious Health as a one-stop centre for comprehensive lung care, offering both treatment and rehabilitation services. We are expanding these services nationwide." He also demonstrated practical training models for doctors on COPD management.
Speaking as chief guest, Professor Dr Md Rasel Kabir said that COPD is a controllable disease, provided there is proper awareness and treatment. He added that the programme would make a significant contribution to raising awareness among the public.
Faculty members, doctors, students, and members of the general public attended the seminar, which covered detailed discussions on COPD causes, symptoms, and treatment approaches.
Organisers from the One-Stop Respiratory Centre said they would continue conducting health awareness initiatives and work towards improving respiratory care across the country.
The seminar was supported by Alliance Hospital, Ingenious Health Care Ltd, and the Institute of Chest Disease Management and Research, which jointly form the One-Stop Respiratory Centre.
