Dipu Moni placed on 4-day remand in July Uprising murder case
Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Mainul Khan Pulak, the investigating officer, sought a 10-day remand for questioning

A Dhaka court has granted a four-day remand for former education minister Dipu Moni in a murder case filed over the killing of jute trader Md Monir Hossain in Shahbagh during the July Uprising.
In response to a police petition, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order today (6 October).
Earlier in the morning, police brought Dipu Moni before the court from jail. Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Mainul Khan Pulak, the investigating officer, sought a 10-day remand for questioning.
State counsel Omar Faruq Faruqi argued in favour of the remand, while the defence appealed for its rejection and sought bail for its client. After hearing both sides, the court granted a four-day remand for Dipu Moni.
According to the case statement, on 5 August last year, during the July Uprising, Md Monir took part in a protest alongside students and locals in the capital's Chankharpul area under Shahbagh Police Station. He was shot dead on the spot when the accused allegedly opened fire.
Following the incident, Monir's wife, Rozina Akter, filed a murder case at Shahbagh Police Station on 14 March this year, naming 351 people and accusing around 500 others unidentified.
Police arrested Dipu Moni in the capital's Baridhara area on the evening of 19 August last year. She has remained in jail since her arrest.
