The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Aminul Islam Junaid, issued the order today.
A Dhaka court has shown former Bangladesh Chhatra League publicity secretary Tarikul Islam Tarek arrested in a case filed over the alleged shooting at general students during the July Uprising in Mirpur.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, presided over by Aminul Islam Junaid, issued the order today (25 March), following a petition filed by police.
Earlier, the investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md Riazul Islam of Kafrul Police Station, filed the application seeking to show the accused arrested in this case. The court granted the plea after hearing the application.
According to the investigation officer's application, the accused was already in custody in connection with a separate case filed under the "Anti-Terrorism Act" at Kafrul Police Station.
The petition highlighted that this is a "sensitive and high-profile" case, making his interrogation essential for the sake of a fair investigation and justice.
State prosecutor Shamsud Doha Sumon confirmed the development.
According to the case statement, during the anti-discrimination student movement in July 2024, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its associate bodies allegedly carried out a sudden attack and opened fire on protesting students at Mirpur-10 in the capital.
On 19 July, the complainant, Bashir Uddin, was passing through the Shah Ali Plaza area when the accused, along with others, allegedly formed an unlawful assembly and began firing indiscriminately at protesters. As he attempted to flee, two bullets struck the right side of his abdomen and exited through his back.
Locals rescued him in critical condition and admitted him to Kurmitola General Hospital.
In connection with the incident, the complainant filed the case with Kafrul Police Station on 10 October 2024.
