RAB dogs auction: Labradors, German Shepherds bidding starts from Tk1,000
The highest bidder will not necessarily be awarded the dog. According to the notice, the authorities reserve the right to accept or reject any bid without assigning any reason.
The Rapid Action Battalion will auction eight trained dogs used in its operational activities, including five Labradors and three German Shepherds, at its Mirpur dog squad premises tomorrow (12 August).
The open auction will be held at 12pm on 12 August at the RAB Dog Squad premises at Mirpur-14 Police Lines, according to a tender notice issued by the RAB Forces Headquarters. Interested bidders must deposit Tk1,000 as security before bidding.
The eight dogs are Dilon, Digby, Don, Evan, Elma, Nero, Heidi Junior and Wink. They are aged between six years and seven months and eight years and three months.

Dilon, Digby and Evan are male Labradors, while Don and Heidi Junior are female Labradors. Nero and Wink are male German Shepherds, while Elma is a female German Shepherd.
How to participate
The tender notice says prospective buyers will have an opportunity to inspect the dogs before the auction. Participants must deposit Tk1,000 in cash as security and pay 10% income tax and 15% VAT on the sale price.
Successful bidders must pay the full purchase price within three days and take delivery of the dogs by contacting the deputy director of operations at RAB Forces Headquarters.
Each dog will be auctioned separately, and the process will continue until all the dogs are sold, said Commander Kamrul Hasan, director of the RAB administration division.

Previous auction
In November 2025, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police auctioned three trained K9 squad dogs for Tk6.30 lakh.
Among them, a UK-bred Labrador named Cory fetched the highest price of Tk5.60 lakh and was bought by a private citizen.
The other two dogs, Sam and Fin, were sold for Tk40,000 and Tk30,000, respectively, to a close relative of the chairman of Partex Group, according to then K9 squad inspector Fakhrul Alam.
Police had said the three dogs had cost more than Tk1 crore to purchase and train.
According to CTTC sources, the dogs had served for years in counter-terrorism and anti-militancy operations, including detecting explosives and other dangerous materials.
Having reached eight years of age, they are no longer fit for strenuous search, patrol or explosive-detection duties. However, they remain physically healthy and can live normally as domestic pets.
