According to ministry sources, students injured or disabled during the mass uprising will be officially recognised as "July Student Warriors."
The government has announced a series of initiatives in the education sector, including free education up to the university level for those injured or disabled during the 2024 July Uprising, as well as for children of those killed.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon issued the directive at a meeting at the ministry today (24 March), marking the first working day after the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
According to ministry sources, students injured or disabled during the mass uprising will be officially recognised as "July Student Warriors." Tuition fees for them, along with the children of those killed, will be waived up to the university level.
The meeting, attended by senior officials from the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Technical and Madrasah Education Division, and Primary and Mass Education Division, also outlined several additional initiatives aimed at strengthening the education sector.
As part of a nationwide support programme, more than 200,000 students in each upazila will receive free school uniforms and shoes within the next 180 days.
The initiative will gradually be expanded to include all primary-level students.
In a move toward digitalisation, the government plans to provide tablets to all teachers at the primary, secondary, technical, and madrasah levels within one year under the "One Teacher, One Tab" initiative.
Authorities also emphasised the introduction of multimedia classrooms, compulsory third-language education, and expanded access to technical education.
To improve the quality of primary education, the adviser directed officials to address training backlogs by introducing multiple training shifts.
Teachers over the age of 50 who have been brought under nationalisation will also be included in these programmes.
To foster students' intellectual development, the government plans to introduce mathematics olympiads at the upazila level and establish debate clubs in all educational institutions, along with regular debate competitions.
The ministry also announced plans to introduce student loan facilities for higher education abroad, provide recognition to Huffaz, and implement the "One Child, One Tree" programme nationwide.
Officials have been instructed to quickly formulate the necessary policies to implement these initiatives.
