Journalists boycotted the National Citizen Party (NCP) press briefing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after NCP activists allegedly harassed a journalist today (2 October).
A press conference was arranged at the VIP lounge as Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and his delegation returned home this morning after attending the 80th United Nations General Assembly.
According to media personnel, at the VIP gate, BNP leader Humayun Kabir was giving a briefing when NCP activists shouted slogans loudly. When a journalist asked them to stop, the activists reportedly attacked and physically harassed the journalist.
Following the incident, journalists boycotted the NCP press briefing.
NCP Joint Member Secretary (Media) Mushfiq Us Salehin told The Business Standard, "The incident was caused by activists of Dhaka North. He said the misunderstanding arose over the slogans, and the party has expressed regret to the affected journalist. Senior leaders also contacted the journalist to apologise.
Mushfiq said organisational measures will be taken against those involved. He called the incident 'embarrassing and regrettable'.
He added that NCP leaders in the UN delegation will hold a proper press conference soon, and the schedule will be announced promptly.
