11-foot Burmese python caught in fishing trap in Chattogram’s Boalkhali
Shawon told The Business Standard that the Burmese python measured 11 feet in length and weighed about 12 kilograms.
An 11-foot-long Burmese python was caught in a fishing trap set in a wetland in Chattogram's Boalkhali Upazila today (27 September).
"I had set a trap in the beel beside Gagan Master's house to catch fish," eyewitness Boton Ghosh said.
"Around 8am, while lifting the trap, I found a huge python stuck in it," he added.
Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team member Amir Hossain Shawon rescued the python after locals informed him.
Shawon told The Business Standard that the Burmese python measured 11 feet in length and weighed about 12 kilograms.
"It was rescued unharmed. I have already spoken with the Forest Department about releasing the snake back into the jungle," he said.
"At present, I have three pythons under care. The Forest Department has advised that the two earlier ones should be released into the wild only after they receive full treatment," he added.
Earlier, on Saturday (20 September), another Burmese python—measuring nine feet and weighing 10 kilograms—was caught in a net beside Romoni Mohor School in the same upazila.
Shawon said the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team has so far rescued a total of four Burmese pythons from different areas of Boalkhali.
