No security threats surrounding Durga Puja celebrations: Home adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that there are no security threats surrounding the upcoming Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community.
He remarked that this year's celebrations will be held in a more harmonious and festive atmosphere than in the previous years after inspecting the security arrangements at the Ramkrishna Mission puja mandap in Narayanganj's Mission Para area this morning (22 September).
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced that adequate security measures have been put in place for the 33,000 puja mandaps across the country. Ansar, police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and military personnel will be deployed to ensure safety.
The adviser said that all mandaps will be brought under CCTV surveillance for round-the-clock security.
He added that each mandap will be guarded by eight Ansar members and seven volunteers from the respective puja celebration committees. The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs will also provide 80,000 volunteers.
The home adviser, as he made his remarks, emphasised that there were no security concerns regarding the festival in Narayanganj, where he noted that communal harmony has always been strong and has improved further this year.
During the visit, he was accompanied by senior officials, including Dhaka Range DIG Rezaul Karim Mallick, Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Jahidul Islam Mia, Police Superintendent Mohammed Jhasim Uddin, and RAB-11 Commander Lt Col HM Sajjad Hossain.
