NCP follows up with Election Commission on party registration progress
The National Citizen Party (NCP) met with the Election Commission on Monday to check the progress of its registration as a political party. NCP Joint Secretary Zahirul Islam Musa said the Commission aims to complete new party registrations within this month.
According to Musa, the party's application has met all requirements and is under process, with field-level verification reports being compiled. "Once these reports are consolidated, registration may be finalised this month," he added.
The meeting did not address NCP's electoral symbol. Officials also discussed postal voting for overseas Bangladeshis, confirming that expatriates will be able to cast ballots by mail, with the process and timeline under review.
Ahead of the February 2026 parliamentary elections, the Commission plans to maintain continuous dialogue with all registered parties.
Currently, field investigations are ongoing for 22 parties, including NCP. Legal requirements stipulate that a party must have a central committee, at least one-third of district committees, and 100 upazila committees, each supported by at least 200 voters.
Election Commissioner, Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar, told reporters, "We have requested district-based investigation reports for all 22 parties. Some reports are still in the pipeline, while others are arriving."
The Commission will review all information, issue notifications for eligible parties, resolve objections, and finalise the registration process within the month.
