Today marks the 13th anniversary of the death of writer, playwright and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed.
Commemorating the day, family members and fans of the late author paid rich tribute at his graveyard in Nuhash Palli, Gazipur.
Special prayers were offered at Humyun's graveyard in the presence of Humayun's widow, actor-singer Meher Afroz Shaon, and their two sons Ninit and Nishad, alongside well-wishers and fans.
In addition, a Quran recitation programme and a milad mahfil were also organised. Students from local orphanages and staffers of Nuhash Palli took part in the events.
Like in other years, Humayun's fans gathered at the writer's grave in the litchi orchard of Nuhash Palli to pay their respects by placing floral wreaths.
Male fans were clad in yellow panjabi, while females were in blue saree, imitating the celebrated fictious characters – "Himu" and "Rupa" – created by Humayun.
Talking to the media after offering prayers seeking salvation for the departed soul of Humayun, his widow, Meher Afroz Shaon, called upon the young generation to embrace the ideologies of Humayun.
Shaon also reiterated her commitment to carrying forward Humayun's dreams.
Efforts are underway to secure the financial resources necessary for the construction of the Humayun Memorial Museum, she added.
Humayun Ahmed was born in Kutubpur village of Mohanganj upazila of Netrakona on 13 November 1948.
He passed away at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, US on 19 July 2012, while undergoing treatment for cancer.
As an author and playwright, he is best known for his iconic fictional characterisations such as "Himu", "Misir Ali", "Baker Bhai", among others.
