Court orders seizure of Tk5cr assets of CID Inspector Ekram, wife

A Dhaka court today (15 July) ordered authorities concerned to seize assets worth more than Tk5 crore of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector Md Ekram Ali, his wife Kanij Fatema Mukta and three other people.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The properties, which are to be seized, include plots and flats in Dhanmandi, Gulshan, Badda, Keraniganj and Gopalganj. The estimated cost of the properties is Tk5.38 crore.
Other people with interests in these properties are Rawshan Ara Begum, Tania Akhter and Md Imdadul Haque.
The ACC in its plea said the commission is probing allegations of amassing illegal wealth against the couple and it has learned that they are trying to hand over or transfer the properties to evade justice.
For the sake of proper investigation, the properties should be seized, it said.
