A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of properties worth nearly Tk2 crore, including land, a six-storeyed residential building, two plots, and a flat belonging to Nahida Runai, an associate of disgraced financier PK Halder.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz today (1 February) ordered the seizure of assets worth an estimated Tk1.89 crore following an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) petition.
Court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the matter.
The properties include a 3,183-square-foot flat in Dhanmondi, a three-katha plot in Uttara, a six-storey residential building on 10 decimals of land in Khulshi, Chattogram, and two plots totaling six kathas in Narayanganj.
ACC Deputy Assistant Director Md Sajib Ahmed filed the application, stating that the investigation against Nahida Runai is ongoing and that there was a high risk of the immovable assets being transferred, making seizure necessary.
Earlier on 28 January, a Dhaka court ordered the commencement of trial against S Alam Group Chairman Mohammad Saiful Alam, former Reliance Finance Limited (now Aviva Finance Ltd) Managing Director Prashanta Kumar (PK) Halder, former manager Nahida Runai, and 10 others in an ACC-filed corruption case over alleged embezzlement of Tk24 crore through fraud and abuse of power.
