Court orders seizure of flat owned by ex-secy Mohibul's wife amid graft probe
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order today following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of a 2,700-square-foot flat worth Tk4.2 crore in the Mohakhali DOHS area owned by Syeda Afroza Begum, wife of former civil aviation senior secretary Md Mohibul Haque, to prevent its possible transfer during an ongoing corruption investigation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order today (2 March) following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed.
The application was submitted by ACC Deputy Director Tahasin Munabil Haque.
According to the application, former senior secretary Md Mohibul Haque is accused of taking bribes, engaging in irregularities and embezzling crores of taka.
It stated that the allegedly embezzled money was laundered abroad and that he and his family members acquired wealth beyond their known sources of income.
"A six-member investigation team has been formed to probe the matter and submit a report," said the application.
During a review of records and documents, investigators found that Syeda Afroza Begum, a former additional secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, owns a 2,700-square-foot flat in Mohakhali DOHS, Dhaka.
"There are concerns that she might attempt to transfer or dispose of this immovable property. To prevent any obstruction to the investigation, it is necessary to seize the property before any transfer or disposal occurs," it added.
