Bank Asia reappoints Romo Rouf Chowdhury as board chairman

Bank Asia PLC. has re-elected Mr Romo Rouf Chowdhury as the Chairman of its Board of Directors at a recent board meeting.

Mr Chowdhury, a Sponsor Shareholder and Sponsor Director of the bank, has been associated with Bank Asia since its inception. A graduate in Engineering from Durham University in the United Kingdom, he brings with him over 31 years of experience in diverse sectors and is regarded as one of Bangladesh's most accomplished entrepreneurs.

He currently serves as the Chairman of Rancon Group—one of the country's largest and most diversified conglomerates, with over 30 subsidiaries operating across automotive, real estate, electronics, fishing, and marine industries. These include Rancon Motorbikes Ltd., Rancon Motors Ltd., Rangs Ltd., Rangs Properties Ltd., Rancon Automobiles Ltd., Rancon Oceana Ltd., Rancon Sea Fishing Ltd., and Rancon Electronics Ltd.

As Chairman, Mr Chowdhury has played a pivotal role in shaping Bank Asia's strategic direction, particularly in advancing the bank's commitment to financial inclusion, technology-driven banking, and responsible growth.
His re-election is expected to ensure continuity in leadership at a time when the banking industry is facing evolving regulatory challenges and heightened expectations around sustainable finance and digital transformation.
