Pathao Pay, Mastercard and MTB roll out youth-focused prepaid cards

Pathao Pay, in collaboration with Mastercard and Mutual Trust Bank PLC, has launched a new line of real-time companion prepaid cards, designed specifically for the youth segment.
The announcement was made on Sunday, aiming to deliver seamless, flexible, and secure payment solutions that do not require a traditional bank account.
The cards, which can be availed in both physical and virtual formats, are integrated with Pathao Pay wallets and support online and offline transactions, ATM withdrawals, NFC-enabled tap payments, and real-time transaction balance updates.
Coming in three distinct designs — Starlit Horizon, Purple Haze, and Sunshine Beach — the cards promise a personalised user experience for young users who seek more control over their spending.
Fahim Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of Pathao, said:
"With Pathao Pay's wallet-linked cards — a first-of-its-kind in Bangladesh — cardholders can transact the way they want, access funds when needed, and manage money flexibly. Pathao is more than a brand; it's a lifestyle. These cards will cater to the dynamic aspirations of today's youth."
Mutual Trust Bank PLC will serve as the issuer of the prepaid cards. Speaking on the occasion, MTB CEO and MD Syed Mahbubur Rahman said,
"This collaboration reflects our commitment to offering forward-thinking financial products to the new generation. These cards will empower users to enjoy more freedom in their payment experiences."
Mastercard's Country Manager for Bangladesh, Syed Mohammad Kamal, added:
"Mastercard is proud to power these innovative products that align with the financial expectations of young Bangladeshis. The new prepaid cards combine ease, security, and control — all in one solution."
Starting today, select high-usage Pathao Pay users will receive early access to the card rollout, ahead of wider availability in the coming months.
