UCB Islamic organises Quran recitation competition
United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB), through its Shariah-based banking arm UCB Islamic, has organised an online Quran recitation competition, "Quraner Dhoni", to mark Ramadan.
The initiative aims to underscore the spiritual significance of the holy month and to promote the art of Quranic recitation nationwide.
Over 500 participants from across Bangladesh registered online, submitting video recordings of their Quran recitation. A distinguished jury panel shortlisted the top ten contestants, who then performed live in the final round at the UCB head office.
Following evaluation, Khandakar Israt Jahan Muntaha was awarded first place, with Abdul Momin as first runner-up and Tamjid Khan as second runner-up. The judging panel featured renowned qaris and Islamic scholars with national and international recognition, including Shaykh Qari Ahmad Bin Yusuf Azhari, Qari Muhammad Habibur Rahman Meshkat, Qari Nuruddin Ahmad, and Mufti Abul Hajjaj Zubair.
Distinguished guests included Shamsul Alam, Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Committee; Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid, Managing Director and CEO; and Abul Alam Ferdous, Additional Managing Director and Head of UCB Islamic. Other senior bank officials were also in attendance.
Before presenting the prizes, Rashid remarked, "The recitation of the Holy Quran is not merely a religious practice; it imparts messages of peace, values, and morality. Through the 'Quraner Dhoni' competition, we aim to promote the beauty of Quranic recitation nationwide and provide a platform for talented children and youths to showcase their abilities."
Speakers noted that melodious Quranic recitation brings spiritual tranquillity and encourages the younger generation to connect more closely with the teachings and beauty of the Quran.
