The Directorate of Primary Education is going to change the names of 21 government primary schools in Jashore district which are not harmonious or euphonic.

The Jashore District Primary Education Office prepared a list of schools whose names are not harmonious after a zoom meeting with the primary education officers of eight upazilas on August 10.

"The list of these schools will be sent to the Directorate at the end of this week for name-changing," District Primary Education Officer (DPEO) Sheikh Ahidul Alam said.

Sources at the District Primary Education Office said that the office recently received a letter signed by Khalid Ahmed, Director (Policy and Operations) of the Directorate of Primary Education regarding the matter.

The Directorate of Primary Education has taken an initiative to rename government primary schools that have unattractive names. The new names of these schools will be harmonious and in keeping with education and culture, it added.

The schools are: Sripaddi Registrar Primary School, Jot Rahim Registrar Primary School, TKG Sommiloni Registrar Primary School, Nongarpur Registrar Primary School, Mathabhanga Government Primary School and Sirajsingha Tarafdar Para Government Primary School in Sadar upazila.

Additionally: Garhbhanga Majhpara Registrar Primary School, Nepakati Registrar Primary School and Patrapara Registrar Primary School in Keshabpur upazila, Adilpur Divisional Registrar Primary School and Kalarabad Government Primary School in Abhaynagar upazila.

Furthermore: Chetla Dumurkhali Government Primary School, Kamalpur Government Primary School at Hanua, Sundra Government Primary School and BBGH Registrar Primary School in Manirampur upazila.

And: Mangir Para Registrar Primary School, Kadhabila Jhautla Registrar Primary School, Arardah Nimatla Registrar Primary School, Kushtia Fatehpur Registrar Primary School, Mashmampur Registrar Primary School and Tajbijpur Community Primary School in Chaugachha upazila are all due to be renamed.

DPEO Sheikh Ahidul Alam said it is a great initiative of the government to change the names of the schools which are not harmonious. Actually, it is embarrassing to read the names of those primary schools that do not portray education and culture.

"So we welcome the effort of changing the names of these schools by the government," he said.
