Two members of the Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA), including a commander, were killed during an army operation in the remote hill areas of Ruma upazila in Bandarban early today 93 July).

During the operation, army personnel recovered three sub-machine guns, one rifle, and ammunition.

An Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate media release in the morning stated that drives were still ongoing in the area.

When contacted, Ruma Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sohrawardy confirmed that several army units conducted an operation in the Poli Prangsa area of Ruma upazila early in the day, leading to a gunfight between the army and the KNA operatives.

"Two bodies were later found in the area. It is believed that one of the deceased is a KNA commander. Due to the lack of mobile network in the region, we are yet to receive full details," he said.

Sohrawardy added that two army units and one police team were deployed to the site following the incident. Further information will be available once the teams return from the area.

A press briefing on the incident was scheduled to be held at the Ruma Army Zone this afternoon, according to Bandarban Press Club President Aminul Islam Bacchu.

However, as of filing this report in the evening, no further information was available.
