A Chattogram court has granted permission to interrogate former Chattogram-11 MP MA Latif at the jail gate over allegations of amassing wealth illegally.

Chattogram Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court passed the order today (2 July), following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC had sought permission to question him in connection with allegations of amassing substantial movable and immovable assets through financial crimes committed by abusing political influence.

Confirming to The Business Standard, ACC Public Prosecutor Kazi Sanowar Ahmed Lavlu said, "He [Latif] is facing an allegation of involvement in financial crimes. On 23 June, we sought court permission to interrogate him for proper investigation. The court approved the request today."

Latif is currently in custody at Chattogram District Jail. He has been accused in several cases filed with Chandgaon, Kotwali, and Double Mooring police stations, including a case related to an attack and murder during last year's July movement.

Latif was elected MP four times under the ruling Awami League's "boat" symbol. He also previously served as president of the Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
