Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 has arrested Sujon Barua, an active armed member of the Chattogram Hill Tract-based separatist group United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), from the Bayezid Bostami area of Chattogram city.
According to a press release issued by the RAB media wing this morning (1 July), the arrest was made ysterday (30 June) at 6:50pm based on intelligence reports.
RAB officials launched an operation in the area after receiving information that Sujon had arrived in Chattogram two days earlier.
The arrested individual hails from Lakshmichhari upazila in Khagrachhari district.
"Sujon Barua is an active armed member of the UPDF. Based on information that he had recently arrived and was staying in Bayezid, our team conducted a raid and successfully arrested him. We also recovered photos of him in uniform and carrying firearms, confirming his affiliation with the armed wing of the UPDF," said the press release.
RAB further confirmed that a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act is already pending against Sujon at Bayezid Bostami Police Station. He has since been handed over to the station for legal proceedings.
The UPDF is known for its armed activities in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, and Sujon's arrest is being seen as a significant step in ongoing efforts to curb separatist militancy in the region.
