EWU and UNESCO Dhaka hold workshop on media literacy and healthy digital ecosystem

East West University (EWU), in collaboration with the UNESCO Dhaka Office, organised the inaugural team-building meeting to establish a Media and Information Literacy (MIL) network among public and private universities in Bangladesh. The event, held at the EWU campus in Aftabnagar, was followed by a workshop on Strategies for a Healthy Digital Ecosystem.

Dr Susan Vize, UNESCO Representative to Bangladesh, highlighted UNESCO's commitment to advancing MIL. Professor Dr Dilara Begum proposed the formation of a steering committee and outlined the network's objectives, while Ms Noore Jannat Proma of UNESCO Dhaka presented the planned key activities of the network. Professor Dr Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, delivered closing remarks for the morning session, stressing the importance of collaboration in promoting MIL.

The afternoon workshop addressed critical topics for fostering a healthy digital environment. Professor Dr Saiful Alam discussed Navigating the Digital Maze: Understanding Misinformation, Disinformation, and Fake News. Professor Dr Dilara Begum shared practical guidance on Fact-Checking in the Digital Age: Essential Tools and Techniques. Mr Nadim Farhad spoke on Mitigating Hate Speech and Promoting Respect.

Faculty members and students from 16 public and private universities actively participated, sharing insights and experiences. The event aimed to encourage institutional collaboration and support the integration of MIL into higher education curricula across Bangladesh.
