A Dhaka court today (24 May) imposed a travel ban on Md Moazzem Hossain, former assistant private secretary (APS) to Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain.

The court also asked the concerned authorities to block the National Identification Card (NID) of Moazzem Hossain, who was sacked from the service recently following massive allegations of corruption.

Senior Special Judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC in its petition told the court that the anti-graft body is inquiring into allegations of illegally earned wealth of Moazzem, who allegedly amassed the wealth by misusing power, taking bribe, extortion and tender business, irregularities and corruption.

The ACC came to know that the accused person may leave to country to avoid investigation, so that he should be barred from going abroad and his NID should be blocked for the sake of investigation, the petition said.
