Court bars former Wasa MD Abdus Salam, wife from leaving country
According to a CID petition, former managing director of Dhaka Wasa Md Abdus Salam, his wife Mahbubunnesa and individuals connected to them amassed huge amounts of wealth illegally.
A court has ordered a foreign travel ban on former managing director of Dhaka Wasa Md Abdus Salam Bepari and his wife Mahbubunnesa over allegations of money laundering.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order today (10 March) following a petition filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police.
Earlier, CID Inspector Md Ashraful Islam filed the petition seeking a ban on foreign travel for the accused Abdus Salam and requesting information from 20 institutions linked to him and other suspected individuals and entities associated with his interests.
According to the petition, Abdus Salam, Mahbubunnesa and individuals connected to them allegedly amassed huge amounts of wealth illegally.
It further alleged that they laundered money abroad and acquired substantial assets in different countries, including Canada.
The petition stated that restricting their foreign travel was necessary to ensure a proper investigation into the alleged money laundering.
