Corruption probe: Court bars Asif Mahmud's former APS from leaving country
The order was issued today (30 March) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz following a petition by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed.
A Dhaka court has barred Md Moazzem Hossain, former assistant private secretary to ex-local government and sports adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuyain of the interim government, from leaving the country amid an ongoing probe into allegations of corruption involving hundreds of crores of taka.
The order was issued today (30 March) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz following a petition by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed.
CID Sub-Inspector Md Abdul Hannan filed the application seeking the restriction.
According to the petition, Moazzem Hossain is accused of amassing hundreds of crores of taka through influence trading, tender manipulation and extortion during his tenure. The money was allegedly laundered to countries including the United Arab Emirates, Canada and the United States.
The petition also stated that a money laundering investigation against him is ongoing. It added that the accused may leave the country at any time, making it necessary to bar his foreign travel until the investigation is completed.
