Tuhin Farabi and Dr Mahmudul Hasan, two former personal officers (POs) to Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum, and National Citizen Party leader Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir have been questioned by the Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly accumulating wealth through corruption and misuse of power.

Farabi and Mahmudul were summoned by the ACC to appear before its head office on 20 May. The duo, however, appeared there yesterday, ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam told the media.

Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir, who was temporarily suspended from his position as a member secretary of the NCP, appeared at the stipulated date, today (21 May).

The charges brought against them are of acquiring illegal assets through irregularities and corruption in various forms, such as lobbying, extortion, tender trading.

"They were summoned by the commission's investigating officer for questioning as there were allegations against them. The ACC will initiate next course of action after reviewing their statements and the complaints," Deputy Director Akhtarul said.

Talking to reporters after the interrogation, Mahmudul said he appeared a day later as the matter came to his knowledge through the media, and the ACC's summons letter failed to reach him.

Mahmudul, however, denied the allegations brought against him. "The allegations were regarding lobbying and improper monetary dealings, which are untrue. In addition, the allegations revolve laundering crores of taka— I am truly shocked."

NCC leader Gazi Salahuddin also termed the allegations brought against him as untrue and unfounded, and demanded a proper investigation into the matter.
